The Best Podcasts for Postpartum Moms on Nutrition, Training, and Returning to Running

The Best Podcasts for Postpartum Moms on Nutrition, Training, and Returning to Running

If you're an avid reader like us, you're probably realizing the postpartum era doesn't include a lot of time (or energy) to get to read. Which is why we LOVE podcasts on this topic!

The challenge is that the postpartum content landscape online is noisy, often unqualified, and frequently focused on getting your body back rather than fuelling your recovery and returning to sport in a way that actually works. These are the podcasts we trust at HIVE Training Centre. Every show on this list is hosted or regularly features qualified experts, takes a science-backed approach, and speaks to the real experience of being an active woman navigating the postpartum period.

1. Hit Play Not Pause (Feisty Media)

Hit Play Not Pause is one of the most consistently high-quality podcasts in the female athlete space. Hosted by Selene Yeager (co-author of ROAR and Next Level with Dr. Stacy Sims), it is specifically designed for active women in perimenopause and beyond. BUT its content on hormones, nutrition, energy availability, and the physiology of the female athlete is directly relevant to postpartum women navigating similar hormonal territory.

Episodes regularly feature leading researchers, sports dietitian, pelvic floor physiotherapists, and coaches. The show approaches topics with the same scientific rigour as the ROAR and Next Level books, making it an excellent companion to that reading.

I'd recommend exploring their topics on: postpartum athletes include their coverage of RED-S, breastfeeding and performance, energy availability in hormonally complex life stages, and bone health.

2. The Mother Runners Pod

The Mother Runners Pod is a community-driven show built specifically around the experience of women returning to running postpartum. It is hosted from within the The Mother Runners community and regularly features running coaches, physical therapists specialising in the pelvic floor, and mother runners at various stages of their return.

What sets this show apart is the specificity. The show is also honest about the reality of postpartum running in a way that more polished platforms sometimes are not.

The Mother Runners also maintain a resource library of postpartum return to running research including the four-phase approach to postpartum return to running, which is worth bookmarking alongside the podcast.

3. Active Mom Podcast

The Active Mom Podcast with Dr. Carrie Pagliano is one of the most qualified voices in the postpartum fitness space. Dr. Pagliano is a pelvic floor physiotherapist and the content reflects that clinical expertise throughout.

The show covers pregnancy and postpartum training, perimenopause, menopause, hormonal health, pelvic floor function, and the intersection of all of these with endurance sport. Episodes have covered topics including new research on exercise in pregnancy and postpartum, gut health and hormones in midlife, and ultrarunning through pregnancy and the postpartum period. podurama

For postpartum athletes specifically, the episodes on pelvic floor dysfunction, return to running readiness, and the physiology of the postpartum period are essential listening before you make any decisions about your training timeline. Dr. Pagliano's clinical lens means the advice is grounded in evidence rather than anecdote.

4. Greenletes Podcast

The Greenletes Podcast is hosted by Natalie Rizzo, a registered dietitian specialising in sports nutrition. The show focuses on performance nutrition for everyday athletes with a strong emphasis on plant-based eating, though the episodes most relevant to postpartum athletes extend well beyond that.

A standout episode for postpartum runners is their session on postpartum running and underfuelling with sports dietitian Stephanie Darby RD, covering what most moms do not realise about their energy needs when returning to training. This episode alone addresses one of the most common and damaging patterns we see in postpartum athletes at HIVE: training on insufficient fuel and wondering why performance is declining and recovery is taking so long. buzzsprout

The show is consistently well-researched, clearly presented, and practically useful for athletes who want expert nutrition guidance they can actually apply.

5. Return to Run Podcast

Return to Run is one of the most directly named and accurately targeted podcasts on this list. Hosted by Careth Arnold and Amanda Basham, both of whom are athlete-mothers navigating the return to competitive running, the show sits at the intersection of the lived experience and expert guidance.

Recent episodes have covered postpartum training timelines, the mental health dimensions of returning to sport, navigating injury alongside motherhood, and conversations with athletes like Leah Yingling on ultrarunning through pregnancy and planning a strong postpartum return. The honesty of the format, with two athletes sharing their own experiences alongside expert guests, makes it particularly relatable for women in the middle of the same journey.

6. Dear Runner Bod

Dear Runner Bod takes a holistic approach to the female runner's relationship with her body, covering performance, nutrition, body image, eating disorder recovery, and postpartum training. The show is particularly strong on the psychological dimensions of postpartum athletic identity and the specific challenges of training through breastfeeding and early motherhood.

A standout recent episode features runner and Olympic Trials hopeful Annie Kay discussing eating disorder recovery, postpartum training while breastfeeding, and what it really looks like to juggle elite running ambitions with life as a new mom. This is exactly the kind of content that addresses the full picture of the postpartum athlete experience rather than just the physical component. podbean

For athletes at HIVE who are navigating the intersection of performance goals, postpartum recovery, and their relationship with food and their body, this podcast is worth adding to the rotation.

7. Miles with Moms

Miles with Moms is a podcast for mothers who run, by mothers who run. The goal is for mother runners everywhere to never have to run alone or feel alone in their mom life struggles or journey to accomplishing big goals. audible

The show is co-hosted by women who are genuinely in it. Pelvic floor physical therapist and marathon runner Tricia DeNardis brings clinical expertise on postpartum rehabilitation. Shanna Birchett, a mother of six who returned to running after an eleven-year break and recently ran a 2:44 marathon, brings the performance angle. The combination of clinical knowledge and lived experience makes the postpartum running content particularly credible.

Their episode on running postpartum covers the mistakes they made, the lessons they learned, and the expertise they have since developed, including their experience with pelvic floor health and what they would have done differently. audible

A Note from HIVE

The podcasts and books on these lists are among the best free resources available to postpartum athletes. They will give you a significantly better starting point than most of what gets shared in mum groups and social media feeds.

But listening to a podcast is not the same as having a coach who knows your specific situation. At HIVE Training Centre, we work with postpartum female athletes to build training programmes that account for where you actually are: your pelvic floor readiness, your energy availability, your breastfeeding status, your sleep, your goals, and your timeline.

HIVE Collective Training is $99 per month and includes a structured training plan for your goal race, live coached sessions twice a week, and monthly group coaching calls. We also run the HIVE Female Performance Project, a 12-month research cohort for female endurance athletes that includes biomarker tracking, hormonal monitoring, and individualised coaching within a research framework. 15 spots open October 1, 2026.
